Digital Marketing Checklist for Business - Marketing Strategy

Part two of our Digital Marketing Checklist is on all things Marketing Strategy. 

Much like every other aspect of your business you need a plan when it comes to marketing. In today's competitive market it is crucial that all business types big or small have a solid marketing strategy. So, what is a marketing strategy?

Pretty self explanatory right?! So, then why is it that so many business attack the world of marketing with absolutely no strategy?  Or have a strategy but when asked 'what's your current marketing strategy?' have no idea what it actually is.

Here's a list of what needs to be considered prior to building a marketing strategy;

  1. Your providers - By this we mean partners, collaborators, any businesses who service your marketing department. Who are they? Are you going to work with them moving forward? How will you choose to work with them moving forward? Is there any cross over in providers?

  2. What other platforms do you own/work across? - this includes apps, social channels, domain names, any online assets. How do they work and how are these related to one another?

  3. SEO - What SEO work has been completed to date, is there room for improvements and in what areas? Who is going to manage SEO moving forward? Is there plans to build out a blog to assist with SEO? If you already have a blog how is the content planned?

  4. Current marketing mix - breakdown of current ad spend, reporting on each platform. What's working what isn't? How are all off these marketing platforms connected. By marketing platforms we mean radio, TV, Social Media, Directory, Website, Ad words, SEO, Direct Mail and any others that service your business.

How did you go when working through those points, can you clearly answer each questions & outline what your business strategy is for each? I'm almost certain most for you would answer no! Thats because there is quite a lot to consider and most of the time one aspect has been completely neglected. 

So what to do? Book in a long marketing meeting with all internal parties and get auditing your marketing strategy! Be able to clearly answer and list everything mentioned above.
