CLIENT LOVE // PICTURESQUE HAIR

It's been a while since we've had the chance to sit down with a talented client to talk all things social media but who better to chit chat with than salon owner Magon Carey to kick things off again!

Magon acquired Picturesque Hair Mona Vale a couple years back after working there for many years herself. Since acquiring the business Magon focused on launching a new website and driving new clients to the salon via social media. It's safe to say she is nailing it! The salon continues to go from strength to strength ever since. Have a read of our chat below on how she tackled running a busy salon and kciking butt on social media.

1. Tell us a little about yourself, family, work, passions.
Magon Carey, 28 years old. I have been working in the hairdressing industry for 12 years. I have a twin sister, one older sister and an older brother as well as two half-sisters (big Family). I am an auntie to three beautiful kids, one girl and two boys. I love to travel and experience new things and to incorporate that love of change into my Salon.

2. What inspired you to delve into the world of hair and beauty?
I have always enjoyed making people feel good about themselves, I love the look on a client’s face after having their hair done, my vision for Picturesque is that it can be a positive experience for my clients, and they leave feeling invigorated and beautiful. I have always had a passion for hair – I myself had quite thick unruly hair as a child/teenager and I enjoyed playing around with that and trying new things out.

3. Who is your target client?
Anyone and everyone who loves to have their hair done, a lot of our clients get Balayage and being on the Northern Beaches we do have a coastal beachy feel about us but I believe we are across all segments in regards to colour and style.

4. Without giving too much away tell us a little about your Social Media marketing strategy?
I am not sure if it is a strategy as such, but I like to connect with our clients on a personal level – I want them to see what we are up to in the salon and feel involved and kept up to date. I want them to feel like they are getting the most out of us and what we have to offer which we portray through our daily content.

5. Why did you choose social media as a platform for engaging with your followers?
Social Media is an incredible platform for reaching a wide variety of people, it’s structured in a way that you are able to engage with more than one core group at a time – I love the freedom of social media and the ability to be creative.

6. What is your approach to engaging with your online market?
I keep it to a minimalist in terms of content, I want to show people what we have in terms of products without flooding their newsfeeds, I also try and keep it relevant to the season.

7. The hair and beauty industry is a huge market, with the introduction of social media, what sets you apart from the rest? And how do you stay true to your brand in such a socially driven marketplace?
Picturesque just tries to stay true to the original vision, and that is predominately ensuring people leave our salon feeling good about themselves, the market is huge and there are so many amazing salons out there, I just try to keep the focus of this one on the clients – I use a lot of my own photos of clients and their hair and just show my appreciation of all the support I receive daily.

8. Tell us a little about the pros and cons of social media marketing for Picturesque Hair.
Running a salon is already such a big task and finding time in the day to also post and keep up that social media presence can at times be overwhelming, the girls I work with are key in helping me navigate this and I don’t know how I would do it without them.

9. What would you have done differently if you knew then what you know now?
I am not sure I would change anything, I have really enjoyed this journey and every lesson has been worthwhile – I am still learning and trying new things, when I first started out I just wanted to get my head around the business side of things and now I really feel the salon is coming in to its own, I am more comfortable in it and I am happy with the direction we are taking right now.

10. Quote you live by?
First I do the coffee then I do the hair haha

11. What’s next for Picturesque Hair?
Without giving too much away, I have a lot in the plan over the next year and I can’t wait to share it with everyone, I am exploring other ways in which I believe Picturesque can shine.
