Digital Marketing Checklist for Business - Goal Setting

Now that we've worked through Step 1 - Housekeeping & Preparation and Step 2 - Marketing Strategy its time to talk about goal setting! Before we proceed if you haven't worked through step one & two hold up right now and head over to those articles then come back to us here when you're done.

Right, so before we get to the 'marketing' part it's essential to be clear on the basics & those basics is all centralized around your business goals. 

Step one - List 3-5 primary goals
By this, we mean 3-5 primary goals centralized around your digital marketing efforts. A few things to keep in mind when setting digital marketing goals
1. Be specific - Don't just list 'more sales'
2. Be measurable
3. Agreed upon by all members of the team
4. Achievable - especially those working with an agency
5. Be Realistic with yourselves
6. Always maintain relevancy
7. Where possible have time-based goals.

Step two - Define what success looks like 
What metrics do you plan to track and use to gauge your success? 

Step three - In what time frame? 
Set yourself time frames in which you believe you can achieve your goals. Set smaller goals along the way that can be used as a measure of whether you are on track on not to your final goals. 

Step four - Which conversion goals?
What paths of conversion do you want people to take? Is it based on checkouts, order value, email sign ups? Gow will you measure these conversions. 

Step five - How much is a good conversion worth?
To the business! What is a one-off sale worth compared to a lifetime purchaser? Where do people fall in your conversion funnel? How are you going to rank these customers? 

Here are some examples to help you get started...
- Increase sales of product A by 10% by X date
- 15% more online quote fills by X date
- Increase repeat customer checkouts by 5% 
- Increase social media engagement by 10% across all platforms by X date. 
- Increase Instagram following by 10% each quarter.
