Website Mistakes That Are Killing Your Sales

Getting people off your social media and onto your website is a HUGE win - as a business it’s exactly what we’re aiming for.

When it comes to making the sale, your website is going to carry bigger weight than any other platform you might be marketing your business on.

When people land on your website they want to know that you’ll deliver on your promise, they want to feel confident their order will arrive and they want to know exactly what they’re in for.

Accidentally making it complicated, not being upfront about all the details or asking people to message you for more is going to lose you, customers.

Here are some of the top reasons your website might be killing your sales

A COMPLICATED CHECK OUT SYSTEM

We see this one all the time, people don’t want to go through page after page entering different details just to get to the payment screen.

And not everyone that shops with you want to create an account, keep the option but please don’t make this mandatory.

Keep it simple, the path from ‘add to cart to ‘checkout’ should be seamless and involve as few steps as possible.

We want to capture the purchase before someone decides that it’s all too hard and they’ll come back later (because they won’t).

Add to cart - proceed to checkout - done!

POOR PRODUCT PHOTOGRAPHY

Poor product photography doesn’t cut it anymore. People want to see clearly what they are purchasing and they want to see the details.

If you’re describing the intricate detail of an item however unable to show that detail in an image it’s possible the customer won’t understand what you mean or could misinterpret the description and be unhappy with the product that arrives.

High quality photography is essential for selling products online

HARD TO NAVIGATE

If you haven't set up your product categories, apply search fields or clearly named your products it’s likely your website will be hard to navigate, confusing and will become frustrating for the customer.

You have moments to grab the attention of your customers, a website that doesn't make sense, feels messy and is hard to use will result in limited time on the site and no purchase.

LIMITED DETAILS ON DELIVERY, RETURNS POLICY AND TERMS AND DELIVERY

Where are orders being sent from? How long after an order is placed is it shipped? How is it shipped? What are my delivery options? Is there a fee? Do you offer a refund if I don’t like something or do you only offer credit?

These are just some of the things people need and want to know before they feel confident placing an order with you.

Give your customers all of the information upfront, most people will not get in touch with you to ask you these questions if they are not available, instead they will keep looking and purchase elsewhere.

LIMITED PAYMENT GATEWAYS

Almost all payment gateways are available on most platforms. At a minimum, you should be offering Credit Card, Direct Debit / PayPal and a service like AfterPay at checkout.

If you’re only offering PayPal or asking people to DM you to purchase you’re missing a huge opportunity and you’ll find it incredibly hard to scale your business.
