We reframed the word "agency"... and realised it was more aligned to its true definition.

When you hear the word ‘agency’ what comes to mind? We started Double Tap Agency 7+ years ago and lately, it’s come to my attention that the word ‘agency’ has taken on a different meaning—especially in the marketing realm.

For me, ‘agency’ means a group of experts, who do a service on behalf of another business. Exactly what DTA does! But it seems for some, ‘agency’ is a dirty word that sends alarm bells off when they hear it.

Some people think COWBOYS, big business, being passed from one account manager to another, delays in communication, you're just one business competing for attention from your account manager, insane contracts and hugely expensive.

And sure, there are plenty of ‘agencies’ who are just like that. The marketing industry is riddled with cowboys and people who call themselves ‘experts’ with very little expertise. Like any industry.

In the last few months, I've been talking to potential clients who thought we were going to be built like a conventional marketing agency—and they were shocked that we were absolutely not.

A small boutique ‘agency’ based in Byron Bay, away from the chaos that is all the major capital cities. An ‘agency’ that has one account lead, me! The owner of the business. Completely unheard of in the agency world is that the owner would also be the account manager. We are a team of four, who are all hands-on with the client account and specialise in key areas of marketing from strategy to copywriting, graphic design, brand and content.

It's a personalised experience. You become a part of our family.

As for price—this bit makes me laugh—to have access to all 4 of our experts, you'll be paying a fraction of the price if you hired just one of us in-house, part-time.

Unlike the conventional agency, we work a 4-day week. We prioritise relationships, communication and wellness. We work to be a part of your business so that you feel like we are in-house. The success of your business is at the forefront of everything we do. If you win, we win.

We don't care for hierarchy—we have a flat-line structure. You’ll catch me being the assistant to our content creator more times than not. Because being across every aspect of your account is important to me/us.

I think it's fair to say we go against the grain of traditional ‘agencies’. I have toyed with the idea of changing our name or removing the word, ‘agency’. But it never felt right to do so. I believe it’s because the word, ‘agency’ deserves a reframe. Outside of a business-services context, ‘agency’ also means, “the ability to take action or to choose what action to take”. To give someone agency is to empower their actions and their choices.

That’s why we’re here. We are Double Tap Agency. We’re empowering agency within our clients by giving them the access to experts they deserve. And as a result, we’re doing our part to change the agency landscape—by doing things differently for small businesses, so they can thrive.

If this sounds like the kind of agency you’ve always wanted to work with, then we’d love to chat with you. Get in touch today.
