How to Create a Killer IG Profile

Whether you’re setting up an Instagram bio for the first time or you just want to make sure yours is on track to attract those dream clients - this is the blog for you!

Your profile should easily and quickly describe who you are and what you do, no one should land on your page and be left wondering ‘what does this person/business actually offer’. Your profile is yours and should not look like anyone else’s, it should represent you and your brand and there should be a clear connection between your Instagram profile and your website - ideally, we want to take those Instagrammers from your Instagram profile to your website and convert them into a paying client.
So what does an Instagram profile need - we’ve broken it down for you.

User Name:

Your name is the only other part of your profile that is searchable, it can be the same as your user name, however, it’s also a really good place to put what you do in here also as some people will search for this. For example, if you’re a children’s toy store, a potential customer who might not know the name of your store might try searching ‘kids toys’ for example to see what tags come up and your profile might appear - making the name something slightly different could add another way for you to be found.

Bio:

What you do or offer, how you help, who you go here. You have 150 characters so get to the point, make it succinct and ensure it’s relevant. Someone should be able to read this and have an understanding of what you do.

Profile picture:

Use your logo or an image of yourself here if relevant. Keep it clean and simple, it never shows larger than about the size of your thumbprint so it needs to be easy to see what’s in this space at a glance. A really detailed graphic or a large group shot won’t work here.

Website:

Make sure you have linked your website so people can super easily click from your profile off to your website. You can build a links page on your website or use a third-party app like Linktr.ee to create a menu page so people don’t just head straight to your homepage if you’d like to be easily able to direct them to different parts of your website.

Highlights:

This is a great first stop to people new to your account. Save content that allows people to get to know the brand and serves as evergreen content in your highlights section.

Update the covers so they are inline with your brand, if you don’t it will just show a preview of the first slide from each highlight here and it can look messy and be distracting to the eye when someone is checking out your profile.

Shop links:

If people can shop from your website you NEED to set up Facebook and Instagram shopping. It streamlines the shopping process and makes buying from you so much easier - say hello to increased sales!

And lastly - don’t forget the scroll stopping content! Use high quality images that represent your brand that draw people in and don’t forget to increase your reach by using location tags and hashtags in all of your posts (location tags where relevant - hashtags, always).

Once you’ve got this down you’re ready to hit the ground running!
