How Do You Stay Motivated Working From Home?

As you’d expect, there’s no one size fits all however when I asked the team how they stay motivated working from home, it turns out there are a few common things we all really like to incorporate into our days to help us make the most of every day.

Check out what the team had to say - and let us know if you can relate or if you’ll be adapting anything from anyone's routine?

It's all about routine and structure for me. I can get easily distracted or find myself working a million tasks but not actually completing anything if I don't have a clear plan for each day.

A typical day for me looks like

  • Get up, walk Lenny & grab a coffee

  • Work out which at the moment I'm enjoying boxing every morning

  • Dip in the ocean

  • Breaky

  • Emails

  • Team meeting where we plan the day

  • Knuckle down on my tasks

  • There will be meetings & consults scattered throughout the day

  • Lunch ALWAYS whether that's going to a cafe or whipping something up at home I make sure I always take 30-60 to reset and chill, try to squeeze another ocean dip in if I can

  • Write a to-do list for the next day

  • Clock off at 5 pm (well try to) so I can get to the beach for a swim & take Lenny for another walk

I have to say I’m pretty lucky that I don’t struggle too often to stay motivated, I certainly have my off days where I can’t be bothered, but I usually find it’s when I’m putting in a LOT of hours or when there is just a lot going on that I start to feel burnt out.

For me it’s been more about finding balance, separating home life and work, and finding a routine that works for me.

In the beginning, I would literally roll out of bed, turn my computer on and start working almost immediately, eat at my desk and check emails into the evening...

Now I make a really conscious effort to take a walk first and then get ready like I would if I were going to the office, I take a break to eat lunch, get some fresh air and make sure I completely shut down my computer at the end of the day to really give myself that time with my family.

Making sure I stick to something like this definitely helps to keep the productivity levels high.

To set me up for a productive and successful day, it is very important that I start my day in a positive way followed by setting up my workspace to ensure maximum creativity.

Depending on the day. I usually like to start by walking my dog, enjoying a coffee by the beach, or an early morning swim… I like to have a slow morning to ease my way into a productive mindset.

Before I get started on the daily tasks I like to ensure my workspace is clean and tidy, a candle is lit and music is flowing. Often I will also grab some fresh flowers on the weekend to freshen up my desk.

RACH

As someone who often gets restless, staying motivated while working from home can be hard! For me, the best way to stay motivated is to start the day with a to-do list. One for work tasks, and another for your day-to-day sh*t I need to do. I find that ticking off my list as I go is a good indicator of knowing whether you’re staying on track and how you can better prepare for the next day.

Also, I find a change of scenery always helps. Whether it’s stepping out for lunch, going for a walk/swim before starting the day, or simply moving from the desk to the dining table, this always helps me refocus.
