Bespoke Family Lawyers x Double Tap Diaries

In another episode of DTA Diaries, we speak with the fabulous Amy of Bespoke Family Lawyers, read a little of what she shared with us!

WHAT WAS IT THAT MADE YOU LEAP AND START YOUR OWN FAMILY LAW PRACTICE?

The main reason I started Bespoke Family Lawyers was that I wanted to delve more into creating holistic solutions.  I wanted to help my clients with all parts of their separation journey and not just the legal stuff.

CAN YOU PLEASE TELL US MORE ABOUT ALL THE INCREDIBLE WAYS YOU HELP TO UPLIFT PEOPLE WHILE THEY'RE GOING THROUGH SEPARATION OR DIVORCE?

I think the most important thing we do is treat separation as an opportunity for growth.  We support our clients to rediscover their sense of self, to get clear on their goals, how they want to live life, how they want to feel and we use this to create a legal solution that supports them to build that life.

We also provide practical tools and strategies personalized to the issues, concerns, and challenges that each client may be experiencing - sometimes this might be helping them to create boundaries, implementing a communication plan, teaching them how to communicate in productive ways, giving them the pep talk they need when it’s hard and exhausting and we celebrate their wins - the shifts they are making to recover, rebuild and move forward.

WHAT ARE YOUR BUSINESS VALUES AND HOW DO YOU BRING THESE INTO EVERY CLIENT INTERACTION?

  1. People-centred - people and relationships are at the core of everything we do. The more deeply we understand our clients - their stresses, goals, and needs - the better we can work towards a more personalized solution that will help them to transform their life.

  2. We build authentic connections - we’re committed to building authentic relationships based on openness and trust.  We won’t just say what our clients want to hear, but we also say what they need to hear.

  3. We are powered by strategy - we’re a rare breed of lawyer coupling a high-level technical skill with a high level of emotional intelligence.  This means we take the time to understand the dynamics and different personalities of each party involved and get perspective on what’s important to each of them. This enables us to build a strategy that is very personalized to each client.

  4. We act with integrity - developing trusting relationships is pivotal to what we do. We’re committed to acting ethically, respectfully, and transparently in every interaction, we have with our clients, other lawyers, and our community.

WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT WHAT YOU DO? WHAT SETS YOU APART FROM OTHER LAW FIRMS?

Even though I'm helping people through one of the toughest times of their life, there is something special about seeing someone bravely pick themselves up when life has fallen apart to rebuild and move forward.  I get to help them grow and evolve as they rediscover themselves and the life they want to create for themselves. I love watching that transformation!

I think one of the things that sets us apart from other law firms is that we’re not just focused on the legal aspects of separation.  We’re helping our client’s to do the work to recover from their past, to rebuild their now and to focus on moving forward.  By offering this holistic approach, we’re giving them the opportunity to take control and to transform their life so that once they are on the other side, they are living their best life.

WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR BIGGEST BUSINESS LESSON?

Get involved in a community of like-minded business owners.  The first year I tried to go it alone and it was as you would expect, very lonely and hard.  Over the past 3 years, I have connected with some wonderful business owners from many different industries and learned so much from their experiences, developed new ideas and created a referral base that is based on authentic connection where we are lifting and supporting each.

THE BEST BUSINESS OR LIFE ADVICE YOU’VE RECEIVED?

Mindset is key.  The more you are driven by scarcity and fear the more closed your thinking is - you live in overwhelm and stress.  The more you work towards a growth and abundance mindset, the more open you are to trying new things, exploring new ways of thinking and stepping into your zone of genius.
