Paid VS Organic
Paid Vs Organic Social Media
The truth is they both play a really awesome role in the world of social media marketing, but let's break it down…
Organic: Typically referred to as your own platforms that you can display content on without paying for it.
Paid: Pay to play. Ads that you create using Facebook Ads Manager that go out to a much larger audience.
Beyond the logistics and the cost, what is the difference?
Organic: Branding
Paid: Reach & Advertising
Your organic content should be consistently updated. This builds the foundation of your brand, it shows people who you are, educates them on what your product or service offering is, what you do and how you can help them. It would be expected that new content was coming from you on a fairly regular basis.
One of the things people love most about organic social media is that it’s in real-time, so it’s a great place to show people behind the scenes, what you’re working on, what you’ve got coming up, and any relevant industry updates - anything that’s current is loved on organic socials.
Paid content allows you to reach a far greater number of people. It drives people to your website or your organic socials and is always accompanied by a clear call to action - shop now, learn more, book a call - it asks the viewer to take a very specific action and usually drives them off the platform and takes them to your website or landing page.
Paid advertising helps put you in front of MORE of the right people. Creative that will stay live for around a month - depending on the performance.
For a powerful social media strategy - use both if you can! If not, start with organic (hey, it’s FREE) and work up to a small ad spend ($500 is a nice baseline a month) so you can get in front of more of the right people.
