What platform should I be on!?

“Should I use Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest, SnapChat, Youtube? All of them? Some of them? One of them? None of them? ARGH!”

It’s a question we hear on a daily basis over here at Double Tap. Unfortunately, there is no simple answer as every business and their needs are different.

Ultimately the goal is the be highly active across all platforms – but that takes time and work!

Before you throw that towel into the “too hard basket” – let’s look at where you can start!

Start with ONE and do that well! Put in the time and effort to get one platform working for your brand, then eventually you can add another in the mix and then another and then another.

“But what one do we start with?” I hear you ask! Well again, that is something specific to YOUR business. Can you tell your story visually? Do you have beautiful products you could share? Or is your business model skewed towards the advice/consultancy end? How are you going to best communicate what you do online?

Here are our 4 hot tips to get you moving on the social media train:

  1.  SIGN UP! Once you have come up with your user name or “handle” sign up for ALL of your social accounts, regardless of which one you are going to focus on. Remember the aim is to be highly active across all platforms – so you want to have consistency in your branding/user names. Nothing worse than eventually signing up to Instagram and having to use “Your_Business_6678_”

  2. Do your research. Each platform offers an array of benefits for the budding business owner. However, each platform is a brand-new beast— requiring a new approach + strategy. Look online at user statistics, audience segments and go from there (hot tip: 2.3 billion people use facebook & 1 billion people use Instagram every month. And of those monthly active Instagram users, more than 500 million of them use the platform every day.)

  3. Pick one and do it well. Story telling is key when it comes to social. What is your brand? What does it look like? What story is it trying to tell? Answer those questions and you are on your way!

  4. A online presence is better than NO online presence! So time to face the beast and get social!
